Our approach

Therapy where hearts and minds align.

Most suffering, in our experience, comes from the gaps — between what you feel, what you think, and what you do. Most healing happens when those gaps start to close.

Values

Aligning with yourself

The work of knowing what you actually feel, want, and value — under the noise of what you were taught.

Aligning with each other

The work of being known by the people you love — and learning to know them back, even when it is hard.

Aligning with your life

The work of making sure your daily life actually reflects what you say matters — not just on paper.

Not every relationship is meant to be saved — but every person deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and experience love in a healthier way.
— Janelle Dawsey, LMFT, Founder

Common questions about therapy with us

The questions we get most often before someone books a consultation.

Do you offer in-person and virtual therapy?

Yes. We see clients in person at our Greater Atlanta office in Smyrna, Georgia, and virtually anywhere in Georgia through secure video sessions. Many of our clients do a mix of both depending on their week. Virtual sessions are covered by most insurance plans the same as in-person.

What kind of therapy do you specialize in?

Symmetricly is a systemic and relational practice. Our specialty is couples and marriage therapy, but we also see individuals, teens, and families. Our therapists are trained primarily in attachment-based approaches including Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Family Systems Therapy, along with modalities like CBT, EMDR, IFS, and somatic work depending on what each client needs.

How do I know which therapist on your team is right for me?

You don’t have to figure it out alone. Our matching process pairs you with the right therapist based on what you’re working on, your preferences around style and approach, your schedule, and your insurance. You can take our matching quiz for a quick recommendation, or book a free 15-minute consultation and we’ll walk you through it.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We’re in-network with several major insurance plans. We can verify your benefits before your first session so you’ll know exactly what your coverage looks like. If we’re not in-network with your specific plan, we can also work with you out-of-network and provide superbills you can submit for partial reimbursement. Here’s how that works.

What’s the difference between marriage counseling and couples therapy?

The terms are often used interchangeably, but there’s a real distinction. Couples therapy is broader. It covers any committed couple working on the relationship, whether married, dating, engaged, or partnered. Marriage counseling is specifically for married couples and often focuses on issues unique to marriage, including major decisions, family of origin pressures, or recovery from rupture. Our team does both.

How much does therapy cost at Symmetricly?

Cost depends on which therapist you see and how you’re paying. With in-network insurance, most clients pay a copay per session (often between $20 and $50, depending on the plan). Out-of-network self-pay rates vary by therapist. We’ll verify your exact cost during the free consultation so there are no surprises.

How long does therapy take to work?

It depends on what you’re working on. Most clients notice meaningful shifts within the first 6-10 sessions, though the larger work often unfolds over several months. Skill-based work like CBT for anxiety can move faster. Deeper relational and attachment work often takes longer because the change happens at the level of the nervous system, not just thought patterns. We’ll be honest with you about realistic timelines during the consultation.

What happens during the free consultation?

It’s a 15-minute phone call, not a therapy session. We’ll ask what’s going on for you, what kind of support you’re looking for, and what your logistics are like. You can ask anything you want about our team, our approach, scheduling, and insurance. No commitment. No pressure to book a session on the call. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you that and try to point you somewhere that is. More about how it works.

Do you work with one person if their partner won’t come to therapy?

Yes, and this is more common than people realize. We can do meaningful relational work with one partner when the other isn’t ready. The work involves understanding the dynamics from your side, building your own clarity, and sometimes shifting the patterns enough that the relationship changes anyway. If your partner is leaning out and you’re leaning in, Discernment Counseling may also be a fit.

Who founded Symmetricly?

Symmetricly was founded by Janelle Dawsey, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, author of The Real Mommy Makeover and Healing After Heartbreak, and an active speaker on relationship wellness. Janelle built the practice around systemic and attachment-based thinking. The current team includes eight licensed clinicians serving couples and individuals across Georgia.
